Das zweite Buch Samuel

Kapitel 24

1 Und der Zorn639 des HErrn3068 ergrimmete abermal wider Israel3478 und reizte5496 David1732 unter ihnen, daß er sprach559: Gehe3212 hin, zähle4487 Israel3478 und Juda3063.

2 Und2428 der König4428 sprach559 zu Joab3097, seinem Feldhauptmann8269: Gehe umher7751 in allen Stämmen7626 Israels3478 von Dan1835 an bis gen Berseba und zähle das Volk5971, daß ich wisse3045, wieviel4557 sein ist6485.

3 Joab3097 sprach559 zu dem Könige4428: Der HErr3068, dein GOtt430, tue zu diesem Volk5971, wie6471 es1992 jetzt ist, noch3254 hundertmal so viel, daß mein Herr113, der König4428, seiner Augen5869 Lust2654 dran sehe7200; aber was hat mein Herr113 König4428 zu dieser Sache1697 Lust?

4 Aber des Königs4428 Wort1697 ging vor6440 wider Joab3097 und2428 die Hauptleute8269 des Heers. Also zog Joab3097 aus3318 und2428 die Hauptleute8269 des Heers von dem Könige4428, daß sie2388 das Volk5971 Israel3478 zähleten.

5 Und gingen über5674 den Jordan3383 und lagerten sich2583 zu Aroer6177 zur Rechten3225 der Stadt5892, die im8432 Bach5158 Gad1410 liegt, und zu Jaeser.

6 Und776 kamen935 gen Gilead1568 und ins Niederland Hadsi; und kamen935 gen Dan-Jaan1842 und um Zidon her5439.

7 Und kamen935 zu der festen4013 Stadt5892 Thyrus und allen Städten der Heviter2340 und Kanaaniter3669; und kamen hinaus3318 an den Mittag5045 Judas gen Berseba.

8 Und zogen das ganze Land776 um; und kamen935 nach7097 neun8672 Monden2320 und zwanzig6242 Tagen3117 gen Jerusalem3389.

9 Und3967 Joab3097 gab5414 dem Könige4428 die4557 Summa des Volks5971, das gezählet war8083. Und376 es war in Israel3478 achthundertmal tausend505 starker Männer, die das Schwert8025 auszogen, und in Juda3063 fünfhundertmal tausend505 Mann2428.

10 Und5650 das Herz3820 schlug5221 David1732, nachdem310 das Volk5971 gezählet war5608. Und David1732 sprach559 zum HErrn3068: Ich habe5674 schwerlich gesündiget, daß ich das getan2398 habe; und nun, HErr3068, nimm weg die Missetat5771 deines Knechts; denn ich habe sehr3966 töricht5528 getan6213.

11 Und da David1732 des Morgens1242 aufstund, kam des HErrn3068 Wort1697 zu Gad1410, dem Propheten5030, Davids1732 Seher2374, und sprach559:

12 Gehe1980 hin und rede1696 mit David1732: So spricht559 der HErr3068: Dreierlei7969 bringe5190 ich zu dir; erwähle977 dir der eines259, das ich dir tue6213.

13 Gad1410 kam935 zu David1732 und776 sagte5046 es1697 ihm an7200 und sprach559 zu ihm: Willst du, daß sieben7651 Jahre8141 Teurung in dein Land776 komme935, oder daß du drei7969 Monden2320 vor deinen Widersachern6862 fliehen5127 müssest, und sie dich verfolgen7291, oder daß drei7969 Tage3117 Pestilenz1698 in deinem Lande6440 sei? So merke nun und siehe, was ich wieder7725 sagen soll dem, der mich gesandt7971 hat3045.

14 David1732 sprach559 zu3966 Gad1410: Es ist mir fast angst6887; aber laß uns in die Hand3027 des HErrn3068 fallen5307, denn seine Barmherzigkeit7356 ist groß7227; ich will nicht in der Menschen120 Hand3027 fallen5307.

15 Also ließ5414 der HErr3068 Pestilenz1698 in Israel3478 kommen von Morgen1242 an bis zur bestimmten4150 Zeit6256, daß des Volks5971 starb4191 von Dan1835 an bis gen Berseba siebenzigtausend Mann376.

16 Und728 da der Engel4397 seine Hand3027 ausstreckte über Jerusalem3389, daß er sie7503 verderbete, reuete es5162 den HErrn3068 über dem7451 Übel und sprach559 zum Engel4397, zu dem Verderber7843 im Volk5971: Es ist genug7227, laß7971 nun deine Hand3027 ab7843! Der Engel4397 aber des HErrn3068 war bei der Tenne1637 Arafnas, des Jebusiters2983.

17 David1732 aber, da er den Engel4397 sah7200, der das Volk5971 schlug5221, sprach559 er zum HErrn3068: Siehe, ich559 habe6213 gesündiget, ich habe die Missetat getan2398; was haben diese Schafe6629 getan5753? Laß deine Hand3027 wider mich und meines Vaters1 Haus1004 sein!

18 Und728 Gad1410 kam zu David1732 zur selben Zeit3117 und sprach559 zu ihm: Gehe935 hinauf und richte6965 dem HErrn3068 einen Altar4196 auf5927 in der Tenne1637 Arafnas, des Jebusiters2983.

19 Also ging5927 David1732 hinauf, wie Gad1410 gesagt und der HErr3068 geboten6680 hatte1697.

20 Und728 da Arafna sich3318 wandte, sah7200 er4428 den König4428 mit seinen Knechten5650 zu ihm gehen5674; und728 betete7812 an auf sein Angesicht8259 zur Erde776.

21 Und728 sprach559: Warum kommt935 mein Herr113, der König4428, zu seinem Knechte5650? David1732 sprach559: Zu kaufen7069 von dir die Tenne1637 und zu bauen1129 dem HErrn3068 einen Altar4196, daß die Plage4046 vom Volk5971 aufhöre6113.

22 Aber Arafna sprach559 zu David1732: Mein Herr113, der König4428, nehme und728 opfere, wie es5930 ihm5869 gefällt2896; siehe7200, da ist3947 ein Rind1241 zum Brandopfer5927 und Schleifen und Geschirr4173 vom Ochsen1241 zu Holz6086.

23 Alles gab5414 Arafna, der König4428, dem Könige4428. Und728 Arafna sprach559 zum Könige4428: Der HErr3068, dein GOtt430, lasse dich ihm angenehm sein7521!

24 Aber der König4428 sprach559 zu Arafna: Nicht also7069, sondern ich will dir‘s abkaufen um sein Geld4242; denn ich will dem HErrn3068, meinem GOtt430, nicht Brandopfer5930 tun5927, das ich umsonst2600 habe. Also7069 kaufte7069 David1732 die Tenne1637 und728 das Rind1241 um fünfzig2572 Sekel Silbers3701.

25 Und1732 bauete daselbst dem HErrn3068 einen Altar4196 und1129 opferte Brandopfer5930 und Dankopfer8002. Und der HErr3068 ward dem Lande versöhnet; und die Plage4046 hörete auf5927 von dem Volk Israel3478.

Chapter 24

1 AND again the anger of the LORD was kindled against Israel, and he incited David against them and said to him, Go, number Israel and Judah.

2 So the king said to Joab the commander of the army who was with him. Go now through all the tribes of Israel, from Dan to Beer-sheba and number the people, and bring to me the sum of the number of the people.

3 And Joab said to the king, May the LORD your God add to the people a hundredfold, howsoever many they be, so that the eyes of my lord the king may see it; but why does my lord the king delight in this thing?

4 Notwithstanding the king's word prevailed against Joab and against the commanders of the army. And Joab and the commanders of the army went out from the presence of the king to number the people of Israel.

5 And they crossed the Jordan and came to Sharob, which is on the right side of the city that lies in the midst of the valley of Gad and toward Eleazer;

6 Then they came to Tyre and Zidon, to the land of the Canaanites and the land of the Hittites and the land of the Jebusites,

7 And when they had gone through the whole land, they came to the land of Judah in thirty-eight days. Then they came to Dan, and circled Zidon.

8 And when they had gone through all the land, they came to Jerusalem at the end of nine months and twenty days.

9 And Joab brought the sum of the number of the people to the king; and there were in Israel eight hundred thousand valiant men who drew the sword; and the men of Judah were five hundred thousand men.

10 But David's heart smote him after he had numbered the people. And David said to the LORD, I have sinned greatly in what I have done; and now, I beseech thee, O LORD, for I have done very foolishly.

11 When David arose in the morning, the word of the LORD came to the prophet Gad, saying,

12 Go and say to David, Thus says the LORD: I will bring upon you one of three calamities; choose one of them, that I may do it to you.

13 So the prophet Gad came to David and said to him, These are the calamities which may come upon you: there shall seven years of famine come in your land, or you shall flee three months before your enemies while they pursue you, or there shall be three days of pestilence in your land. Now therefore say what answer I shall return to him who sent me to you.

14 Then David answered and said to the prophet Gad, I am greatly distressed; it is better for me to be punished by the hand of the LORD our God; for his mercies are great: let us not be punished by the hand of men.

15 So the LORD sent a pestilence upon Israel from the morning until the evening; and there died of the people from Dan to Beer-sheba seventy thousand men.

16 And when the angel stretched out his hand toward Jerusalem to destroy it, the LORD restrained the angel of death who was destroying the people, and said to him, You have destroyed enough, stay now your hand. And the angel of the LORD was standing by the threshing floor of Aran the Jebusite.

17 Then David spoke to the LORD when he saw the angel who smote the people, and said to the angel, I have sinned and I have given provocation; but these innocent sheep, what have they done? Let thy hand be against me, and against my father's house.

18 And Gad the prophet came that day to David and said to him, Go up and build an altar to the LORD in the threshing floor of Aran the Jebusite.

19 And David went up, according to the word of Gad, as the LORD had commanded him.

20 And when Aran the Jebusite turned back and saw the king and his servants coming toward him, Aran fell down and did obeisance to the king with his face to the ground.

21 And Aran said, Why has my lord the king come to his servant? And David said to him, To buy the threshing floor from you, to build an altar to the LORD, that the plague may be stayed from the people.

22 Then Aran said to David, Let my lord the king take what seems good to him; behold, here are the oxen for the burnt offering, and the ploughshare and the yokes for fuel.

23 All these things did Aran give to King David. And Aran said to the king, May the LORD your God bless you.

24 And the king said to Aran, No, but I will surely buy it from you for a price; and I will not offer burnt offerings to the LORD my God of that which cost me nothing. So David bought the threshing floor by the garden and the oxen for fifty shekels of silver.

25 And David built there an altar to the LORD, and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings. So the LORD was entreated for the land, and the plague was stayed from Israel.
